    Smokey's DogHouse, a Commerce Township-based company specializing in providing natural and preservative-free dog treats has retained JVS, a Southfield-based non-profit organization, as a supplier of contracted labor through their Supported Employment program. Through the partnership, individuals with disabilities are packaging wholesale and retail products to ensure quality control of Smokey's DogHouse products.

    Smokey's DogHouse Treats' Launches Smokey J's Bagels for Dogs

    Commerce Township - Smokey's DogHouse Treats, an innovative dog treat manufacturer and distributor committed to the well-being of man's best friend, has launched Smokey J's Bagels for Dogs. Andrew Gelsey, president of Smokey's DogHouse Treats said, "we were racking our brains looking for our next new product that would fit within our current product assortment, and while picking up bagels for Sunday breakfast the idea hit me, why not bagels" Gelsey went on to partner with Josh Charlip, owner of The Bagel Factory and a 20year bagel making veteran to create Smokey J's the bagel for dogs. As with all of our products, these products are certified Kosher.

    Smokey's DogHouse Treats' New and Improved New Packaging and Wheat Free

    Smokey's DogHouse Treats, an innovative dog treat manufacturer and distributor committed to the well-being of man's best friend, has redesigned their packaging as well has improving their ingredients of both their BARKscotti, 'the biscotti for dogs"® and DogHouse Bones brands of treats. Andrew Gelsey, president of Smokey's DogHouse Treats said, "not only did we update our packaging to create a better shelf presence at retail,we increased our content amount from 6 ounces to 8 ounces without raising the cost to our retail partner." Gelsey went on to explain that "the descision to switch to organic barley flour was in direct response to comments from both the retailer and consumer. We actually went one step further and removed the canola oil and replaced it with organic red palm fruit oil, an oil that is high in antioxidant content."

    Smokey's Gets Kosher Certification

    Commerce, MI - When Rabbi Jason Miller, a local rabbi and kosher supervisor, thought it was a joke when he received an email message inquiring about certifying dog treats as kosher. The founder of KosherMichigan was already certifying a Jewish camp, a synagogue caterer, a cookie and bagel bakery, and a vegetarian Indian restaurant when he received the message from Andrew Gelsey in December. Gelsey is the President and CEO of Augie Brands, Inc. the manufacturers of DogHouse Treats, DogHouse Bones, and BARKscotti, "the biscotti for dogs" a biscotti-like treat for canines.
